Is therapy covered under OHIP?

At this time, therapy is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. If you have private health insurance, I invite you to check for their coverage of psychotherapy services by a Registered Psychotherapist as more and more insurance companies are providing coverage for this service.

How much does therapy cost?

The full cost of a 50-minute session with me is $160. I do also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots ranging from $100-$160. Because there are a limited number of spots, I invite you to ask in our consultation what spots are available should you require fees on this scale to access services.

Question 4

How do I know if I need therapy?

Accepted Answer

In my opinion, everyone can use some therapy at some point in their lives, sometimes at multiple points. If you are experiencing changes in your activities of daily living, such as difficulty sleeping or regulating emotions, therapy might be helpful. Other common indicators would be symptoms of anxiety, depression, and grief (among many others) that are difficult to manage.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychotherapist?

In Ontario, a psychologist is able to diagnose as well as treat a client, but is unable to provide prescriptions for medications. A psychotherapist, depending on their educational background, is typically unable to diagnose or provide prescriptions for medications, but has specific training focused only on the treatment of symptoms/mental health conditions. It can create lasting positive changes for those seeking a better quality of life, such as helping to work through negative experiences and emotional functioning.

How does virtual therapy work?

I provide virtual psychotherapy to folks throughout Ontario. This means that I meet with folks either on the phone or via video chat, whatever method is available to the individual in order to allow them to access care.
